Meet Dr. Hicks | A Real Man Who Wears Pink

There’s a lot that can be said about Dr. Randy Hicks, co-owner and CEO of Regional Medical Imaging. One of the more appropriate things is he was chosen as one of the Real Men To Wear Pink.

With Breast Cancer Awareness Month in full swing, it’s a sure bet you’ll see a lot of pink in stores, doctor’s offices, and public places. But the Real Men (who) Wear Pink must dress the part in October. They’ve been challenged by the American Cancer Society to wear pink each day of the month, and raise funds to fight breast cancer.

As part of an intermittent series of posts, we’d like to introduce you to the folks who work at RMI. The timing being what it is, our CEO is the perfect candidate. His enthusiasm for this new fundraising challenge is no surprise. And as the Real Men Wear Pink fundraising page shows, we are going strong.

The excitement is infectious, and we are competing within RMI to help raise even more funds.

Dr. Hicks has dedicated his life to the early detection of disease, especially breast cancer, that affects the lives of so many in our region.

His deep and abiding sense of community stems from his roots in Mason, Michigan, a farming town where family values were key. In fact, RMI’s motto “Our family taking care of your family” hearkens back to his early years in Mason. Today, he proudly says the 130 employees at RMI are part of his family.

He graduated from Michigan State University, where he also had his residency and later earned an MBA in management. Today, he is a committed advocate for women’s healthcare, especially for breast cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment.

To this end, Dr. Hicks works closely with medical colleagues to encourage multidisciplinary, best-practice approaches to care. This includes such efforts as establishing local “tumor boards” that bring together radiologists, surgeons, oncologists, and other physicians from leading healthcare systems and practices in the region.

In addition, he serves as a thought leader and spokesperson for the role of information technology in enhancing the quality and efficiency of health care and serves as a leader on various boards and advisory committees.

His passion, however, lies with winning the fight against breast cancer. He defines this as catching breast cancer early, when it is much more treatable, and enabling women to lead a normal life.

So, if you see a gentleman in a pink vest, or pink shoes, or perhaps a pink shirt, it could be Dr. Hicks. Say hello, ask him about battling breast cancer, and if you desire to help out – please do so.
