What is a Rapid Breast MRI?
A rapid breast MRI is a shorter, streamlined version of a traditional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan of the breast. While a standard MRI can take up to 45 minutes, a rapid breast MRI typically lasts 10–15 minutes. It uses powerful magnets and contrast dye to create detailed images of breast tissue without any radiation exposure. What to Expect During the Exam
During a rapid breast MRI, you’ll lie face down on a padded table with your breasts positioned in a cushioned opening. A contrast dye will be injected into your arm to enhance the images, and you’ll be moved into the MRI scanner. The scan itself is quick, quiet, and doesn’t involve any squeezing or compression of breast tissue like a mammogram.
After the scan, a radiologist will review the images and share the results with your doctor, typically within a few days.
