Prostate MRI is a complete game-changer for men at risk for prostate cancer. Instead of the “poke and hope” approach of a blind prostate biopsy, this MRI can precisely identify suspicious lesions within the prostate. Our radiologists can assess the lesions and possibly rule out the need for a biopsy. If I biopsy is needed, the images can be used by your urologist for a more precise sampling of prostate tissue.
Between 20-25% of TRUS biopsies miss prostate cancer,1 and they underestimate the severity of the disease in half of all men whose cancers were classified as “slow growing.”2 Prostate MRI has been clinically shown to improve the detection of clinically significant prostate cancer. In addition, when this imaging scan is used before biopsy, it can reduce the number of unnecessary biopsies by one-third!3
