Interventional Radiology

Interventional radiology (sometimes referred to as “IR” or “special procedures”) is a specialty within radiology that uses minimally invasive techniques to place needles or small catheters inside the body, guided by imaging to allow treatment or diagnosis that may otherwise require a more invasive open surgery.

Thanks to our specially trained interventional radiologists, RMI is able to perform image-guided biopsies, vascular access, interventional pain management and other procedures in an outpatient setting. The minimally invasive techniques utilized are typically more comfortable and convenient for patients, with faster recovery and lower risks compared to open surgical alternatives. Although conscious sedation may be utilized, there is no need for general anesthesia and no hospital stay is needed afterward. Patients are able to return home within a few hours of their procedure.
