Unfortunately, patients with osteoporosis are often symptom-free until they have a noticeable fracture. Some even develop multiple small fractures without knowing it. By the time a fracture occurs that is significant enough for the patient to notice, the disease may have progressed beyond its earliest and most treatable stages.
As osteoporosis progresses, multiple spine fractures may occur, causing lower back pain, severe bands of pain radiating to the sides of the body, height loss, or curvature of the spine.
