HOW THE VIRUS IS SPREAD AND ITS EFFECTS
Although absolute certainty about the transmission, rate of infection, and exact effects and duration are not yet know, COVID-19 is believed to be like other coronaviruses such as SARS or MERS. It is spread through respiratory droplets from an infected person who coughs or sneezes. This is similar to how influenza and similar pathogens are spread. It is unknown what additional symptoms there may be (see below), and also unknown if persons may be re-infected a second time.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS
Symptoms may appear 2 to 14 days after exposure, Patients infected with COVID-19 may experience:
- Shortness of breath
The key with any virus is the importance of protecting yourself and prevent the spread to others. The most effective way is hand sanitizing.
WASH your hands with soap and water vigorously (including under fingernails) for a minimum of 20 seconds. It is recommended to wash hands whenever you have touched public surfaces, before preparing or consuming food, or have touched another person who is sick.
REFRAIN from touching your face, eyes, mouth and nose.
COVER your cough & sneeze with a tissue and dispose of it in trash.
AVOID close contact with people who are sick.
STAY home when sick until fever has been less than 100.4 for 24 hours and your symptoms are gone.
CLEAN and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces such as door knobs, light switches, and TV remotes.
